I think this is a well reasoned argument that responds to what I've felt at times in attending conferences and doing my own work. This is not to say that the "provocative" is not important or that it is always tedious, but that it is predictable. It often seems that the readings that are most rewarded are those that are the most blatantly counter-intuitive.
