Trying this out

I've set up a blog for one of the courses I'm proposing to Spelman as part of my application for the Mellon Teaching Fellowship. You can find it here.

Setting up the blog on blogger was very easy to do, and I think that this could be a useful tool in future courses that I teach. Obviously, there won't be a lot of content added to the blog, until 2008 (and probably not even then since the odds are slim for the fellowship). But I thought you all might get a kick out of it.

The End of an Era

Final post on "Le Blogue Bérubé" today. I find it extremely interesting that his primary reason is that he feels the medium is too constraining. I wonder what this means for the future of blogging and the academy. We should be sure to ask Dr. B about this when she visits.

Flavia has her own post on networking here. One of the things she says that I like is that it is not just about you reaping the benefits of getting to know other people: other people will reap the benefits of getting to know you. This is true even if the other people are more senior and better accomplished than you are.

Dr. Crazy has a very interesting post about networking inspired by the MLA. It is not anything we haven't heard before, but a very thoughtful and detailed consideration of the way our profession works. The comments posted so far are also worth reading.
