It is just fascinating to me that the MLA and the Departments themselves cannot agree on what is best in this arena. It seems so ridiculous that few departments would not respond to this conversation that has been going on publicly for at least five years now.
It also made me think about a moments when I have heard professors in both college and graduate school talk about how the curriculum is much less difficult now than it was when they were in school. And yet, these same professors are so eager to up the ante on tenure. It feels inconsistent.
